Many of our teams choose to purchase clothes at a local thrift store and leave them in Haiti. Our missionaries will see that they are distributed to the Haitian people through a local church program.
Packing in space bags or shrink wrap will maximize the room in your suitcase.
Pack all liquids in a ziploc in case it spills. Baggage handlers in Port-au-Prince are very hard on luggage.
Use the same, easily identifiable object on everyone's luggage so the bags are easy to spot at baggage claim.
Please do not bring or plan to use anything with a heating element (hair dryers, straighteners, curling irons, etc.) as they draw too much electricity. Our facility is completely off the grid; we encourage visitors to conserve electricity and water during their stay.
Last but not least... if you have additional room in your luggage or are willing and able to carry extra bags, please check with our project managers to see what items may need to be carried from the US. Many items are difficult or impossible to find in country. Thank you!
